Vegas StrEATs Festival – Saturday, Oct. 8
El Cortez will host the monthly Vegas StrEATs food-truck, arts and music festival on the Jackie Gaughan Parkway from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8. Many of Las Vegas’ favorite food trucks participate in Vegas StrEATs each month along with local art and clothing vendors from across the city. Official After-Party of the Las Vegas Halloween Parade – Monday, Oct. 31
Following the second annual Las Vegas Halloween Parade, El Cortez will host the official after-party. The party starts immediately following the parade, which commences at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
The highlight of the parade is a costume contest which features a variety of categories a, including best group costume, most creative Las Vegas themed costume, funniest costume, best-lighted costume, weirdest costume, best float, best Las Vegas Halloween parade showgirl icon and scariest costume. El Cortez Exterior Painting
El Cortez Hotel & Casino continues more than $1 million in renovations during its 70th anniversary year with a full property paint job. The exterior of the property will receive a new-look over the next couple of months to keep up with all the great things happening in Downtown Las Vegas and the Fremont East Entertainment District.
Jackie’s Jackets for Jackpot Winners in October
Throughout October, Club Cortez players winning a jackpot of $200 or more on a slot machine, a $200 or more jackpot on a video poker five-cent or lower denomination machine, a $300 or more jackpot on a video poker ten-cent or high denomination machine or a $200 or more jackpot on live keno will receive free El Cortez-logo jacket. All jackpot winners will also receive an entry into the weekly Saturday night 40” LCD HDTV giveaway and $2,000 cash prize drawing. New Cocktails at El Cortez’s Parlour Bar & Lounge
El Cortez introduces three new drinks at the recently opened Parlour Bar & Lounge:
- “The Scottie”: An eponymous drink for one of El Cortez’s most tenured bartenders, “The Scottie” combines Sky cherry vodka, Chambord, Triple Sec and splashes of cranberry and lime juice.
- “Parlour Refresher”: This new concoction is great on a scorching Vegas summer day or when guests are longing for that summer feeling in the middle of winter. The “Parlour Refresher” is composed of Sky vodka, Blue Curacao, Midori, lemon juice and a splash of Sierra Mist.
- “Fireside Manhattan”: The “Fireside Manhattan” is a drink sure to fit in with the Parlour’s warm rich tones and classic lounge feel. The drink is made of Original MOONSHINE and a float of sweet vermouth.
Free Apple Pie in Celebration of Columbus Day – Monday, Oct. 10
El Cortez Hotel & Casino is serving free, fresh slices of Marie Calendar’s apple pie to celebrate Columbus Day on Monday, Oct. 10. Club Cortez members can enjoy free apple pie while they play slots and table games, and the complimentary slices will be served from noon to 6 p.m. Marie Callendar’s is famous for their tasty selection of homemade pies, and apple pie is an American favorite!
Fresh Snow Crab Special – Begins Friday, Oct. 21
Beginning Friday, Oct. 21, The Flame Steakhouse features jumbo Stone Crab flown in fresh from Florida every week for the Friday and Saturday nightly dinner special. The Stone Crab special is available for only $28 per pound and is served with cottage fries and coleslaw.
El Cortez Vintage Dining & Cocktail Menus
El Cortez Hotel & Casino continues the celebration of its storied past by introducing vintage dining and cocktail menus in honor of its 70th anniversary. To fuel guests’ excitement for the anniversary, the historic hotel-casino has decided to dust off some of Las Vegas’ old recipe books and reintroduce a few classic favorites. The dishes selected were some of the premier dining options featured at the town’s best restaurants in years past, including dishes from Sultan’s Table at the Dunes, Delmonico’s at the Riviera, The House of Lords at the Sahara, La Vie en Rose at the Desert Inn and Saver Room at the Aladdin. After spending weeks to once again perfect the iconic dishes, El Cortez’s chefs proudly present the vintage dining menu at The Flame Steakhouse (full menu listed in ongoing food and beverage promotions) every Tuesday through Thursday throughout 2011.
The cocktail menu will be served at all casino bars daily throughout 2011. This menu celebrates the history of mixology by educating guests on the origins of classic cocktails while offering a chance for them to enjoy their favorites. The menu will include cocktails such as the side car, which originated in the 1920s during World War I; the mint julep, which originated in the 1700s and is one of the country’s oldest cocktails; the blood and sand, a drink from the 1930 premiere of a Rudolph Valentino film; and the aviation, a drink created in the 1910s by the head bartender at the Hotel Wallick in New York.

The Flame Steakhouse features Idaho trout and Minnesota walleye pike flown in fresh every week for nightly dinner specials. Each special is only $16.95 and trout is available each week while supplies last.

Visit Café Cortez for prime rib dinner for only $7.95. Meal includes choice of soup or salad. Café also offers a fajita dinner for just $8.95. Try the vegetarian offerings including a veggie burger, veggie fajita and veggie Chow Mein. Café Cortez also offers a full Chinese menu served from 4 to 10 p.m.

Weekly High Noon “Wheel and Deal” Drawing
Club Cortez players have an opportunity every week to win $500, $300, $200 or $100 in promotional chips. There will two $100 prizes offered in total for fourth and fifth place. During the week, entry tickets in the drawing can be earned during blackjack, roulette and baccarat. During blackjack, tickets are distributed to players when the dealer receives a blackjack, during roulette, tickets are distributed to players when a 0 or 00 is hit, and during baccarat, players receive a ticket every time a “tie” hand is dealt. Double tickets will be given to players every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Players can only win one prize per drawing. There is no limit to the number of entries a player may submit.
