El Cortez is proud to join the Clean the World team as we work to reduce diarrheal disease. Clean the World Foundation, Inc. was founded in February 2009 by two individuals, Shawn Seipler and Paul Till.  Clean the World is a not-for-profit corporation under 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code originally based out of Flordia. Their goal is to re-use the waste soap products from hotels in poverty stricken parts of the world.

Clinical studies have shown that something as simple as the use of bar soap can significantly reduce the risk of many diseases that are killing children daily. We estimate that we will be able to donate over 2 tons of soap a year in this effort, and look forward to our partnership with Clean the World and thank them for all they have done in their efforts.

Due to popular demand, El Cortez Hotel & Casino will continue to offer their vintage dining and cocktail menus in 2012. The menus, created in 2011 to honor the property’s 70th anniversary, dust off Las Vegas’ old recipe books and reintroduce a few classic favorites. The selected dishes were some of the premier dining options featured at the town’s best restaurants in years past, including dishes from Sultan’s Table at the Dunes, Delmonico’s at the Riviera, The House of Lords at the Sahara, La Vie en Rose at the Desert Inn and Saver Room at the Aladdin. The vintage cocktail menu will be served at The Parlour, located on El Cortez’s casino floor. This menu celebrates the history of mixology by educating guests on the origins of classic cocktails while offering a chance for them to enjoy their favorites. The menu includes cocktails such as the side car, which originated in the 1920s during World War I; the mint julep, which originated in the 1700s and is one of the country’s oldest cocktails; the blood and sand, a drink from the 1930 premiere of a Rudolph Valentino film; the aviation, a drink created in the 1910s by the head bartender at the Hotel Wallick in New York, and many more.

As downtown continues to flourish with the emergence of the Fremont East Entertainment District and other new businesses, El Cortez will host a Tweetup to celebrate recent successes and generate excitement for what’s still to come. Fans of El Cortez and downtown are invited to join the toast at The Parlour, enjoy drinks and get a preview of things to come in 2012.

Representatives from various downtown businesses will discuss recent developments to the area and the future of the neighborhood at the event. Downtown Cares Pub Crawl – Thursday, March 22

El Cortez is proud to be one of the stops on the first ever Downtown Cares Pub Crawl on Thursday, March 22 from 7 – 11 p.m. Participants will visit pubs around downtown including El Cortez, Lady Silvia, Hennessey’s and Mickie Finnz where they will enjoy drink specials.

The Downtown Cares Pub Crawl concludes at El Cortez on Jackie Gaughan Plaza with a raffle drawing, food truck rally and concert.

The vintage cocktail menu will be served at The Parlour, located on El Cortez’s casino floor. This menu celebrates the history of mixology by educating guests on the origins of classic cocktails while offering a chance for them to enjoy their favorites. The menu includes cocktails such as the side car, which originated in the 1920s during World War I; the mint julep, which originated in the 1700s and is one of the country’s oldest cocktails; the blood and sand, a drink from the 1930 premiere of a Rudolph Valentino film; the aviation, a drink created in the 1910s by the head bartender at the Hotel Wallick in New York, and many more.

Weekly High Noon “Wheel and Deal” Drawing Club Cortez players have an opportunity every week to win $500, $300, $200 or $100 in promotional chips.  There will two $100 prizes offered in total for fourth and fifth place.   During the week, entry tickets in the drawing can be earned during blackjack, roulette and baccarat.  During blackjack, tickets are distributed to players when the dealer receives a blackjack, during roulette, tickets are distributed to players when a 0 or 00 is hit, and during baccarat, players receive a ticket every time a “tie” hand is dealt.  Double tickets will be given to players every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Players can only win one prize per drawing.  There is no limit to the number of entries a player may submit.  Winners are drawn every Saturday at 12 p.m.  Winners have two minutes to redeem their prize.  Promotional chips may be placed on any even money bet on blackjack, roulette or baccarat.  Please see Club Cortez for additional details.

El Cortez Hotel and Casino is spreading holiday spirit this year by hosting a gift drive in support of Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Greater Las Vegas from Monday, Nov. 28 through Friday, Dec. 16. “We had a great response during our holiday gift drive for Ronald McDonald House last year, and we wanted to show our support for them once again during this holiday season,” said El Cortez General Manager Mike Nolan. “The charitable organizations throughout Las Vegas are so important to our community, and everyone at El Cortez really jumps at the chance to help one of those organizations.” Donations will be accepted at El Cortez’s casino cage from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily during the gift drive, and all guests who donate a new, unopened gift valued at $5 or more will receive $10 in free play. Free play can only be redeemed once and will only be given to those who provide a receipt showing a value of greater than $5 when donating their new, unopened gift. It’s time for our monthly Vegas StrEATs Festival at the El Cortez Hotel & Casino. It may be a little chilly out but the food and fun will be hot! We want to say thank you to all the vendors, food trucks, DJ’s, artists, and musicians that have helped make this possible!
