Here we go again! It’s time for our next 70th event! We’re teaming up with a few of our fabulous neighbors and favorite food trucks to bring you the Vintage Vegas Street Food Throwdown.
We’re having a face to face cook off featuring some classic dishes in honor of El Cortez’s Vintage Menu. Each truck will be pulling out all the stops to impress our judges and take home the gold. We’ve lined up some tough critics and foodies including: Denise Valdes from 8 News Now, John Civitello Food & Beverage Director at El Cortez, Jerry Misko local visionary artist, and Las Vegas’s own Mayor Carolyn Goodman.
El Cortez will also be offering a bar serving our classic cocktails and Landshark and Shock Top will have their energetic representatives present with a whole lot of fun planned.
Thee Swank Bastards will be performing courtesy of Neon Reverb. Don’t miss all the excitement and be sure and check out all the incredible bars and business in the area as well!

Did you know El Cortez has an old fashion barber shop? It’s a bit of a hidden gem, located just up the stairs off the game room floor. The art of the straight razor shave has been disappearing over the years as old fashion barbers are found less and less.
Ernesto Ortiz, resident barber at El Cortez has been mastering his craft since 1983. Originally from Arizona, Ortiz moved to Las Vegas in 1963 and has been at El Cortez for eight years now. Ortiz commented that “Now a days most people don’t have time for an old fashion shave, but I have customers that have been coming in on a regular basis for 20+ years.” We were lucky enough to see Ortiz in action and thank his satisfied customer for allowing us to take a few quick photos.
One of the things we pride ourselves on at El Cortez is our rich history. Seventy years and counting, El Cortez is still holding onto its’ vintage Vegas feel as it works to blend the modern world with classic Vegas. If your looking to relax and treat yourself, stop by El Cortez’s barber shop and experience a real treat with an old fashion shave and a haircut. For an appointment or more information please contact El Cortez at 702.385.5200.
